Important Church Update

14th September 2021

Dear Thrive Church Family,

By now, we’re sure that most of you would have heard the NSW Government announce their COVID roadmap to recovery, part of which will allow places of worship to open, but only to those who are vaccinated.

To be very clear, the Gospel of Jesus Christ is for everyone. We cannot in good faith open our church to the public while ever there are some people that may be excluded. Our God loves and cares for all people with no exceptions. Everyone – irrespective of their vaccination status, should be free to worship, pray and be in Christian community without fear or worry of being excluded. This is not just a fundamental human right, but right now it is even more important as our local community experiences deep anguish, financial stress, family separation, loneliness & other serious mental health issues that the church of Jesus Christ is called to respond to.

The world needs Jesus now more than ever; so there is much for us to do as a local church to help those in our community find healing and freedom that is only found in Jesus Christ.

As a church, we do not have an official position on vaccination, rather we encourage individuals to make their own choice on the basis of their conscience as per Romans 14 and in consultation with their GP and other medical professionals. It is our heart and desire that the issue of vaccinations does not become a division point in our church community and that we stay unified around Jesus Christ and the Gospel.

Please also be assured that the Australian Christian Churches, of which Thrive Church is associated with, is in constant communication with the Government, advocating on behalf of the church to be considered an essential service in our community as well as ensuring a non-discriminatory roadmap is applied to churches on re-opening.

In the meantime, we strongly encourage you to do what you can to stay connected and care for each other as the Body of Christ at this time. Finding opportunities to connect in person where the rules allow is strongly encouraged.

Finally, can we encourage you to continue to PRAY. This is our first and most important response as Christians. Prayer changes things and is a powerful tool that we can all engage in especially in these challenging times. One of the best ways you can do that is by joining us every Tuesday night at 7:30pm via zoom as we pray together as a church family.

We love & appreciate you,

Ps Brad & Amy Hagan
